Good to know

The belvedere at the top of the Triumphal Arc opened in August 2013.From there, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view over the Praça do Comércio, the Castle of São Jorge, the Baixa district and the Tagus.
Inside, you will discover in the Clock Room exhibition the history of this triumphal arch, from the beginning of its construction after the earthquake of 1755 until its completion in 1875.

You can also admire the Praça Da Figueira (Fig Tree Square), where many events take place, the Praça Dom Pedro IV (Praça do Rossio) with its magnificent train station and the Praça dos Restauradores.
Finally, you can also take a walk along the best-known avenue of this district, the Avenida da Liberdade, a main artery leading to the Eduardo VII Park and the Marquis de Pombal Square.

The Baixa district is at the heart of Lisbon with quick access to the other parts of the city. Access to public transport is easy.


Around the block


The best attraction in the Baixa district is undoubtedly the incredible view from the top of the triumphal arch of Augusta Street (Arco da Rua Augusta). 
Stop and have a drink of Ginja, a homemade cherry liqueur, at the “A Ginjinha” bar in the Rossio district. A Ginjinha is a typical Lisbon bistro. People come here to drink “ginjinha”, a famous cherry liqueur loved by the Lisboans.
Visit the Castelo de São Jorge to discover one of the best views of Lisbon. This castle was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century, was enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century and was finally modified under the reign of Afonso Henriques.
